Greetings, droog! I’m Vanya Bagaev / Vanechka, a writer, translator, and editor of nova·nevédoma, based in London. Author of Tulubaikaporia (a real banger, I promise), Deleted Scenes from the Bestselling Utopian Novel and The Debut Project; fiction shortlisted for the Saroyan International Prize for Short Fiction, work at the Republic of Letters (read my interview), Apocrypha, SUM FLUX, and Soaring Twenties, amongst other lovely places.
nova·nevédoma (lit. the New Unknown, Obscure, Unexplored, or even Subconscious — depends on your favourite Slavic language) is a literary locus and solo samizdat press of experimental fictions, translations of Russian classics, and other complementary materials to existence. The press is a DIY operation: I write and/or translate and typeset the books, run the website and infrastructure, with editors, artists, designers and other occasional collaborators. For the curious: how this site works →
Books are printed and distributed via IngramSpark, so available at Bookshop.org, Amazon, and most online retailers. Special editions are produced via BookVault and sold direct only. New works also available on my Substack blog.nova-nevedoma.com together with some exclusive content; more about the newsletter.
The best way to support is to buy the books, talk about them with your friends / family / followers, and write reviews! There are never enough reviews in the literary world!
If you don’t have spare lucres to purchase the books, reach out (I insist), especially if you’d like a review copy. I’d love you to read them regardless of where you’ve ended up on the capitalism spectrum!
Whether you have a question, want to discuss the books, or are interested in collaboration, I’d love to hear from you. More about guest posts, collaborations, and commissions.
